The Water Street sewer installation project, delayed because of a dispute over massive cost overruns that have doubled its price, is now scheduled to resume in early January.

Here’s what to expect.

  • The construction crew is scheduled to arrive on January 2 to setup staging area behind Memorial Hall and mark detours.
  • Digging should begin soon after, starting near the intersection of Chilton and Water streets and progressing south toward the state pier.
  • Water Street traffic will be restricted to one-way heading south.
  • Northbound traffic on Water Street will be detoured.
  • Parking restrictions around the construction area will be in place.
  • Sewer line installation is scheduled to be completed in May 2024.
  • Once the construction company leaves the site, road and parking areas will reopen for the summer.
  • Work begins again in the fall for final paving of Water Street.
