A two-car crash following a police chase on State Road near the intersection of Plimoth Patuxet Highway left one driver dead and traffic backed up on both roads for hours Friday morning.

According to Plymouth Police, the 9:45 a.m. crash was reported by multiple witnesses. Both drivers were taken to area hospitals, where one since died. Authorities investigating the crash had yet to release the names of those involved late Friday.

It’s the second fatal crash along State Road in Plymouth since October, when 18-year-old Matthew Wilson of Plymouth died in a similar head-on crash on the notoriously dangerous stretch of road.

According to the Massachusetts State Police, the accident happened after Plymouth Police received a 911 call about an alleged domestic violence incident. When police got to the scene, a male suspect fled driving a blue Volvo.

Following a brief pursuit along Route 3 North, the driver of the fleeing vehicle lost control and crashed into a Porshe Macan. The driver of the Porsche was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the Volvo was pronounced dead at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Plymouth, state police said.
