An 18-year-old Plymouth man was killed and two others injured in a head-on crash on State Road Friday morning.
The accident, on a notoriously dangerous stretch of road, took place just before 8:30 a.m., according to Plymouth police.
When officers and firefighters arrived at the scene, at 129 State Road, they found a gray 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee and a white 2025 Honda Civic, both with heavy front-end damage.
The driver of the white Honda, identified as Matthew Wilson, of Plymouth, was found unresponsive and trapped in the driver’s seat. He was extracted by Plymouth firefighters and taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Plymouth, where he was pronounced dead, according to Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz.
A passenger in his car, a 16-year-old male also from Plymouth, was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, Cruz said in a news release.
The woman driving the Jeep was taken to South Shore Hospital in Weymouth for treatment, according to Cruz.
A preliminary investigation determined that Wilson lost control of his Honda, crossed the solid double line and struck the Jeep head on, Cruz said.
The crash remains under investigation by state police detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and Plymouth Police.
Plymouth Police Captain Marc Higgins said the call was “extremely difficult… for the first responders who performed lifesaving efforts at the scene.”
“I’m giving them time to decompress and process what they experienced before completing their reports,” Higgins said in an email.
Wilson’s heartbroken grandmother posted on the All Things Plymouth Facebook page that her grandson, who had just turned 18, died at the scene.
Many people offered condolences and prayers.
