Alan J. Watson Sr. of Plymouth, died peacefully on Feb. 7 surrounded by his family at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.
He was the beloved husband of 54 years to Eleanor (Miller) Watson. He was born in Boston on May 21, 1946, son of the late John Watson Jr. and Florence (Kurzman) Hunter. He was educated in Boston and a graduate of Boston Vocational Technical Institute. Alan was a Senior Design Engineer for C & K Components in Watertown for 36 years, where he patented several micro switch designs for the firm.
Alan and Eleanor loved to travel, having traveled to Ireland, Canada and many cruise destinations. They raised three beautiful sons. They enjoyed watching their family grow as the boys married and three beautiful daughters-in-law were added, followed by five grandchildren.
Alan had an extensive collection of model trains and he would spend countless hours designing the village set up. He was always available to help his sons and grandchildren with any of their electrical or electronic issues. His patience was legendary. Alan loved to be outdoors in the spring getting his flowers planted and setting up his patio for the season. During the Christmas season he loved decorating their home for the annual family Christmas party for all the nieces and nephews and their children, as well as his own children and their families.
Besides his loving wife Eleanor, he is survived by his sons, Alan Watson Jr. and his wife Meghan of Plymouth, Nathan Watson and his wife Jessica of Leominster, and Matthew Watson and his wife Christine of Plymouth. Alan also leaves his brother Robert Watson and his wife Sharon of Rockland, and his sister Ruthann Watson of California. He was the cherished grandfather of Casey, Mackenzie, Hunter, Emily, and Miriam.
