This past Thursday, July 16, a fire started in the woods beyond our home on Bloody Pond. The Plymouth Fire Department was prompt and efficient getting the fire under control. At the time we noticed the fire, the wind was out of the Southwest about 12 to 15 knots. This was directing the fire towards Route 3. Around 7 p.m. the wind shifted into the North and the fire started progressing towards our house. The fire department sent several fire trucks to our property to protect us. They worked late into the night to extinguish the blaze.
Friday morning there was still a lot of smoke in the area that burned, indicating the fire was burning underground. Again, the fire department was quick to respond and told us a State Police helicopter would be coming to collect water from the pond to dump on the burned area. The helicopter also included the water safety team from the State Police. They spent the day dropping water and making sure the fire was subdued. They told us they would check the area after sunset and a helicopter with an infrared camera would check for hot spots.
Saturday morning there were still some smoking tree trunks. The firefighters returned and used their pump to douse the hot spots. Thankfully the rain Saturday night soaked the area and there have been no further signs of fire or smoke.
