Dear editor,

Thank you for Mark Potheir’s article on Town Meeting’s refusal to cut 1% of the budget.

I haven’t watched the meeting, but I do wonder about the quality of the data members receive. Through a prospective town meeting member, I recently tried to find out how many fires the Pinehills Fire Station has responded to in Pinehills. The response to my question was

“There is not a fire log that reports the incidence of fires by area.”

In fact, unlike the police department’s published comprehensive weekly report on calls, the fire department does not publish its fire log or any data.

The Plymouth Fire Department is requesting almost $18 million in 2026. Certainly, residents deserve to know what the department is doing. Publishing a weekly call log is the least they could do.
