Massachusetts has the lowest occurrence of gun deaths in the country. You know why? Because we have good, common sense gun restrictions. No matter how gun advocates try to dispute it, one can logically reason that fewer guns result in fewer gun deaths, and Massachusetts is a prime example of this fact.

In case you haven’t read Chief Flynn’s proposed warrant article, here it is: “Article 12 – Exclusion of Administrative Buildings and Properties as Prohibited Areas under Chapter 135 or the Act of 2024, An Act Modernizing Firearms Laws (H.4885). To see if the Town will vote to exclude, as provided for in Chapter 135 or the Acts or 2024, it’s municipal administrative building and Town property from being defined as ‘prohibited areas’ under Chapter 269, Section 10, thereby allowing possession of a firearm, loaded or unloaded as defined in Section 121 of Chapter 140 in said buildings, or take any other action relative thereto.”

In other words, Chief Flynn thinks it’s a good idea for Plymouth to opt out of state gun restrictions in public places. Why on Earth would Plymouth want to increase the chances for gun violence in our public spaces? What, is Chief Flynn trying to drum up more business for Plymouth police? That’s not funny, and neither is gun violence.

The Second Amendment was written long before the AR-15 was invented, and the NRA became a multi-million-dollar gun lobby. It was to ensure a “well-regulated militia” could arm itself against the king’s tyranny, not a bunch of separate, private citizens who are told to feel insecure because they’re not armed. We, as America’s Hometown, should be a leader in common sense gun control, not an enabler of paranoid unchecked egos and Dirty Harry wannabes.

I’m calling upon Town meeting representatives to stop this insanity and vote against Special Warrant Article 12 that would put Plymouth residents at increased risk of gun violence.

That you for representing me at Town Meeting.
