George Baird

George Baird, of Plymouth, husband of 52 years and the recipient of a Bronze Star for his service in Vietnam, died quickly and peacefully June 11 in his home. He was 76.

Born in Okawa-Mura, Gunma-Ken, Japan on March 14, 1950 to Anson Baird and Harue (Iwase) Baird, he was 1968 graduate of Brockton High School. He was a member of the National Honor Society and lettered in cross-country, Indoor and Outdoor track.

In 1968, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Security Agency and was deployed to Vietnam where he was awarded the Bronze Star.  After his service, he was employed in 1972 by the Walworth Valve Co., Braintree, MA as a machine operator where he rose to Supervisor of Scheduling and Inventory Control.

He was a competitive pistol shooter and a lifetime member of the Plymouth Rod and Gun Club, where he served as club secretary for 27 years.  He was also a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1822 and a paid-for-life member of the American Legion Post 40.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marianne C. (Pelaggi) Baird; two children, Scott C. Baird of Buellton, CA, and Ms. Debra A. Baird of Weymouth; also, his daughter of the heart, Ms. Sanaa Baird and her daughter Yasmine Baird of Belleville, IL;  brother, Richard Baird and his wife Beverly Baird of Bridgewater, MA; sisters, Barbara Lindberg and her husband Stephen Lindberg of Mooresville, N.C.; Patricia Pappas and her husband Steven Pappas of Bridgewater, MA; and Shirley Hersh and her husband Steven Hersh of Cary, N.C. as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Diane Baird of Brockton, MA. .  

Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, August 23 at Carmell-Davis Funeral Home, 373 Court St., Plymouth. The funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24 at Faith Community Church, 29 Carver Road, Plymouth. Burial service will follow at 12:45 p.m. at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
