Gary P. Frizzell, affectionately known as “DJ Gary Frizz” for the music he brought to many events, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, Sept. 5 at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. He was 73.
Born July 2, 1953, in Valdosta, GA, to the late Harold and Barbara (Garside) Frizzell Jr., he spent much of his childhood moving around the country because of his father’s career in the U.S. Air Force. He graduated from Plymouth-Carver High School and retired as superintendent of the Plymouth’s Wastewater Treatment Plant after a 42-year career.
Family and friends remember him as a lifelong motorcycle enthusiast, passionate about riding his Harley on in charity rides, including Big Nick’s Ride for the Fallen and Blackbeard’s Ride. He was a member of the Plymouth Elks Club and the Seaside Club. Affectionately known as “DJ Gary Frizz,” he also provided the music and helped create the atmosphere for countless school events, parties, proms, weddings, and celebrations over the years.
He is survived his wife, Christine; (Rapose) Frizzell; daughters, Sarah Reizakis and her husband, Alex, of Plymouth, and Hayley Stevenson and her husband, Bill, of Plymouth; grandchildren A.J., Lilly, Jacob, Maeve, and Rowan; his sister Donna MacKenzie and her husband, Lawrence, of Plymouth; brother Lawrence Frizzell and his wife, Lorrie, of Plymouth; and brother Fred Frizzell and his wife, Hannah, of Kingston. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1 at Cartmell-Davis Funeral Home, 373 Court Street, Plymouth. A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 2 at Christ Church, 149 Court St., Plymouth. Interment will be private.
