Albert (Al) Edward Saunders, a native of Plymouth and longtime church Deacon, died on Aug. 27. He was 83.
He was a lifelong member of the Church of the Pilgrimage, where he served as a Sunday school teacher, several years on the Board of Trustees, and a Deacon. He is also a member of the United Church of Marco where he was also a Deacon. He worked in the church’s thrift store for many years. He was a Mason and belonged to Plymouth Lodge. He received his 50-year pin in 2024. He was also Shriner and played in the band when his Dad was band master. He was an active member of the Rotary Club of Plymouth.
His family and friends remember him as an active man who loved to build and fix things, to make people laugh, and to ski, fish, play hockey and go boating with his friends at the Duxbury Cruising Club.
He took an early retirement from the his job at the telephone company to focus on building Pinewood Lodge, a popular wooded campground and RV resort at 190 Pinewood Rd., which is still run by his family.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Linda; three sons Albert Robert and his wife Jody, James Edward and his wife Kim, and Jeffrey Crocker and his wife Julie; eight grandchildren, James Freeman Saunders and his wife Amy, Meghan Block and her husband Rob, Brian Saunders and his wife Nicole, Jessica Clark and her husband Anthony, Christina Ferrucci and her husband Adam, Mary Cogan and her husband Miles, Ashley Ferrucci and her husband Brian, Albert Robert Saunders and his fiancée Bailey; 13 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister, Jean Saunders Duling, and sister in-law Nancy Crocker Geiger.
He was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law Shirley, and grandson, Jay Jeffrey.
Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 18 at Cartmell-Davis Funeral Home, 373 Court St., Plymouth. The funeral service will be on Saturday, Sept. 19 at The Church of the Pilgrimage, 8 Town Square, Plymouth. All are invited to a celebration of life at Pinewood Lodge, 190 Pinewood Rd., at noon following the funeral. Burial will be private.
