Christine Deirdre Benoit

Christine Deirdre (Sweeney) Benoit, a retired teacher at Plymouth North High School, died surrounded by her family on Sept. 12 after a long and courageous battle with dementia. She was 80.

Born in Springfield, MA, on June 5, 1946, to the late Philip A. and Ruth E. (Jefferson) Sweeney, she was a graduate of the Springfield High School of Commerce and Salem State College.  After college, she taught at Fisher Junior College and at Plymouth North High School. She was married to Raymond R. Benoit for 54 years.

Family and friends remember her for her lifelong love of tennis, Plymouth Long Beach, walking, boating at the Plymouth Yacht Club, and golf – where she hit a hole-in-one in 2010 at the Plymouth Country Club.

She is survived by her daughter, Sarah C. Benoit of Redondo Beach, California; her son, Craig R. Benoit of Plymouth; her sister, Janet R. Sweeney, and her partner Craig Lindsey, of South Easton; and many friends, relatives, and former students.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18 at Cartmell-Davis Funeral Home, 150 Court St., Plymouth.  A funeral mass will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at St. Peter’s Church, 86 Court St., Plymouth, with burial following at Vine Hills Cemetery, 102 Samoset St., Plymouth.

Memorial donations in her name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
