Let’s nip the negative Spring town election lawn signs in the bud. The ones we have seen are not only negative, but they are also personal.
Instead let’s campaign for people and ideas. Let’s follow the guiding principles for Plymouth town staff and elected/appointed officials introduced by the Select Board Chair Muratore in 2012 and reaffirmed by our current SB. The nine principles include: Be patient, be kind & tolerant, and show respect. Shouldn’t candidates running for office start following the guiding principles now when they are campaigning? We urge candidates to “set an example of the proper way to treat each other” and “honor other candidates and their opinions.’ If elected to any board in town, citizens will expect this respectful behavior.
Candidates, please tell your supporters to take down any negative signs. Show the world’s people who visit Americas’ hometown that we take the high road and campaign positively. After all, Plymouth is now an international city of peace.
Voters, please attend the League of Women Voters Candidate’s Night at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 30 in the Great Hall at Town Hall. For more information, check out the LWV Candidates Guide.
