This week I am writing to report that the Town Advisory & Finance Committee (A&F) voted to approve the Plymouth Community Trust By-Law in a 10-3 vote. If passed, this by-law ensures that Town officials and Plymouth Law Enforcement will not act as agents for ICE—keeping our community resources focused on local safety.

The A&F Committee provides the primary recommendation to Town Meeting Members. Their strong support sets a powerful precedent for the final vote on April 11.

Dozens of citizens gave in person supporting testimony. THANK YOU!

Many Committee members also gave supporting comments. Opponents conducted intense questioning against the article reminiscent of Capitol Hill hearings. An impassioned speech from a local high school student underscored the human impact of this by-law. In a notable move, the Committee Chair broke tradition to cast a vote in support, signaling his commitment to the cause.

NO votes were cast by Mr. Vecchi, Mr. Snyder, and Mr. Malagutti. Mr. Vecchi is running for Select Board in the May Municipal Election.

YES votes were cast by Ms. Butler, Mr. Dunn, Mr. Friedman, Mr. Ramey, Ms. Richards, Ms. O’Connor, Ms. Reitman, Ms. Keating, Ms. Tompkins, and Chair Lalley. THANK YOU from the petitioners and the community coalition to enact the Plymouth Community Trust By-Law.

During March and April, we will make presentations to the eighteen caucuses to explain why each Town Meeting member should vote to approve it.  Next week, I will provide information on how you can help by contacting your Town Meeting Members.
