Here’s a Super Bowl bet you can count on: Late Sunday afternoon will be a good time to shop at Market Basket.
Like most of Massachusetts and New England, the buzz over the Patriots return to the biggest stage in sports – for a record 12th time – is becoming a roar as the weekend approaches. While many people prefer to watch from a comfortable chair in their own home – or, like me, pace nervously from the opening kickoff – there’s something to be said about making the Super Bowl a group happening.
To that end, local businesses are getting into the game with events and promotions starting Friday.
Mayflower Brewing Company, at 12 Resnik Road in the Plymouth Industrial Park, has taken it a yard or two farther by rebranding itself “MayeFlower Brewing Company” for the weekend, in honor of a certain baby-faced quarterback. It’s planning a pre-game celebration for Saturday, starting at noon. The event, from noon to 8 p.m., will feature live music, food, and “taps flowing all day for the official ‘MayeFlower Tailgate Party,’” it said in a press release.
The Boys and Girls Club of Plymouth, at 9 Resnik Road in the industrial park, is hosting a Friday Super Bowl party for members. It promises “pizza, games, and more.”
At Plymouth GPub in West Plymouth Square, more than 30 TVs will be tuned to the Super Bowl. The pub will offer “game day party platters, football squares with winners announced every quarter, and a big prize giveaway,” it said in a social media posting.
Martini’s restaurant on Court Street is hosting a Super Bowl party with a free buffet.
If you prefer partying at home, Vitamin Sea Brewing on Water Street is offering “Big Game platters” featuring its spectacular paninis. Orders must be placed by 3 p.m. Saturday. Email info@vitaminseabrewing.com.
Family Pizza Plymouth is promising Super Bowl specials with “exclusive online-only discounts.”
Pioppi’s liquor store in North Plymouth is promoting “Souper Bowl” week, as part of its February food drive. “With each [canned goods] item donated we’re giving away a prize (while supplies lasts),” it said. Donate items worth $5 or more and you’ll be entered into a raffle for other prizes. The store will also accept cash donations. All proceeds will “go directly the Plymouth Area Coalition for the Homeless,” it said.
And in Super Bowl-related local news, WBZ News Radio reported that Air Force Petty Officer 1st Class Michael Bradley, a Plymouth native, will be part of the team supporting a flyover of Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., where the game between the Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks is being played. Bradley is “an aviation structural mechanic responsible for maintaining aircraft, making repairs, and ensuring the aircraft are mission-ready,” WBZ said.
