I feel compelled to comment after reading Andrea Estes’ piece on the e-bike discussion at the Select Board meeting.
I often walk the rail trail in North Plymouth with my husband. Both of us are healthy and have no difficulty walking. But it frightens me when someone on a bike comes up behind me with no warning. What if, at that moment, I stumbled or moved to the left for some reason? The thought goes through my mind, and I become angry at the bike rider who was thoughtless about my safety.
I used to be an avid bike rider often riding at the Cape Cod Canal. I was taught to always warn a pedestrian of my presence. It takes no effort to say “passing on your left” as you approach.
