The proposal to regulate ebikes is a needed step to make Plymouth roads and trails safer. When I started riding my ebike six years (and 6,000 miles) ago there were few ebikes and nearly all the riders I encountered acted responsibly. As time has passed more ebikes are on the roads and trails and riders are less considerate. I fully support registration, age restriction, and mandatory helmets. But I also believe there needs to be education and signage, and consequences for those who do not follow the rules.

During the summer, I often ride from my Chiltonville home to the trail from Lothrop Street to North Plymouth. Until recently ebikers were attentive and courteous. I would not like to see trails off limits to ebikers. The police bike team does a great job; having a stronger presence on the trails could cause errant riders to be more respectful.

The recent updates to the North Plymouth trail and anticipated creation of a new trail from Brewster Garden are wonderful improvements. I laud the Select Board for being proactive.
