I am writing to urge you to VOTE YES ON QUESTION 6. My family has over the years participated in permanently preserving nearly 1,000 acres in the towns of Bourne, Wareham, Plymouth and Canton. These include forests, farmland, marsh and shorefront, and one of the most pristine trout brooks in New England. These and places like them need our state’s help in maintaining the habitat.
Question 6 sets aside $100m each year to preserve Massachusetts’ natural habitat. The money, less than .01% of the state’s budget, does not come from your taxes, and is an increase from $25m allocated now.It comes from sales tax on sporting goods. It ensures that we have clean water and that our fields and forests are protected. Over 130 businesses and conservation organizations have endorsed this bill.
If you vote yes on question 6, if we succeed then next time you walk in an open space you can be reminded that you have helped to maintain the natural beauty of Massachusetts.
