Thomas R. Sacco, 86, of Plymouth, formerly of Somerville, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Dec. 24. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be remembered for the love and dedication he had for family.
Tom was born in Boston on Dec. 28, 1937, to Generoso and Elaine Sacco. The family moved to Everett and eventually settled in Saugus where so many memories were created with all the children and grandchildren over the years.
Tom was an upholsterer by trade and began when he was in his late teens. He began his career at Kaplan Furniture and then worked at Frank B. Curry Co. While employed as an upholsterer, he honed his craft and became very talented in the intricacies of the trade. His masterpiece was the pink diamond tufted sofas he made for Albina. He eventually went to work for the MBTA in 1982 and retired in 2003.
He married his beautiful wife, Albina, on Sept. 28, 1963, and they lived in Somerville where they had their only child, Richard “Ricky,” in 1966. After his retirement, he spent a lot of time with his grandchildren, often babysitting and spoiling them rotten. While babysitting he took up bird watching and became knowledgeable about different types of birds. In 2014 they moved to Plymouth to be closer to their grandchildren. While in Plymouth he would fill his days building plastic and wooden models and playing solitaire on his computer. He also spent many days and nights watching his grandchildren play hockey, baseball, football, karate and soccer.
Tom’s pride and joy was his family. There is nothing he loved more than spending time with his family and friends. This is what brought him the most happiness.
Tom is survived by his wife of 61 years, his son Rick and his wife Patsy, of Plymouth. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Morgan, Mia and Chase; and his sisters, Annette McMorrow and Lorraine Moore. He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Bobby and Gene Sacco; and his brother in-law, Richie Sarno.
He is also survived by his brothers-in-law Carmine and Ray Sarno; sisters in-law Leslie Sacco and Sylvia Sarno; and many nieces and nephews.
