Sue L. (Patterson) Gilgun of Plymouth, died unexpectedly on Jan. 18 in her home. She was the beloved wife of the late Richard F. Gilgun, who passed away in 2017. Born in Boston on Jan. 17, 1950, daughter of the late Robert and Irma B. (Tutty) Patterson. She was educated in Wellesley and a graduate of Wellesley High School, and went on to attended Boston University, graduating with her bachelor’s degree. Sue was a longtime employee of T. Kinnealey Company in Boston where she worked as the accounts payable supervisor.
Sue grew up in Wellesley, and after her retirement moved to Plymouth where she lived in the Pine Hills with her husband Dick, until his death in 2017. She owned a home in Ireland where she moved after Dick’s passing, cherishing the time spent with her many friends and family living in both Ireland and England. She recently returned to the Cape area to be closer to loved ones and friends. She had a passion for quilting, needlepoint, and reading. She was an active member of a book club, where she enjoyed discovering new authors. A talented baker, she also enjoyed spending time at the beach, enjoying the sun and saltwater. She and Dick shared a love of travel, with Aruba, Ireland and England holding special places in their hearts.
Sue was the loving aunt to Robin Lucius and her husband Robert Blowers of Lakeville, Rebecca Long and her husband Robert of Dorchester, Melissa Burgess of Plymouth, and Karen Badders of Maryland. She was the great aunt of Sarah Westgate, Zachary Lucius, Gabrielle Lucius and Charlotte Burgess. Sue was the stepmother of Erin O’Toole, Michael Gilgun and Stephen Gilgun .
She was the cousin of Dorothy Walsh. Sue was the stepdaughter of the late Ann Patterson and was the stepsister of Natalie LaPorte and the late Alan LaPorte. She leaves her beloved cat Missy.
Visiting hours in the Cartmell-Davis Life Celebration Funeral Home 619 State Road Plymouth, will be held on Saturday Jan. 25, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. A funeral Mass will follow at St. Bonaventure Church 803 State Road, Plymouth at 11 a.m. Cremation will follow at Vine Hills Crematory Plymouth.
