Raymond W. Schwegler Jr., 87, of Plymouth, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 28, surrounded by his family. He was the devoted husband of Julia A. (Vernon) Schwegler.
He was also the loving father of Raymond Schwegler and his wife Jinhee, of Plymouth, and John A. Schwegler of Plymouth. He was the cherished brother of Sr. Mary Catherine Schwegler, Sr. Regina Therese S.B.S., the late Joseph Schwegler and his late wife Pat, and the late Gerard Schwegler and his late wife Catherine. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Born in Philadelphia, on March 8, 1938, Ray was the son of the late Raymond W. and Rose D. (Eckert) Schwegler. He was raised in Philadelphia and attended St. Edward’s Grade School and North Catholic High School. He continued his education at Philco Ford Tech School and Northeastern University. Remarkably, at the age of 62, Ray returned to school and earned a master’s degree from Penn State University.
Ray built a successful career as an engineer, working for companies that included Digital Equipment, Fischer & Porter, RCA, GE, and Taylor Instruments. He also shared his knowledge and passion for engineering as an adjunct professor at the Rochester Institute of Technology and Bucks County Community College.
He and Julia raised their family in Marlborough, Rochester, NY, and Warrington, PA. Ray had a deep love for technology and art – especially painting – and was known for his sharp intellect and creative spirit.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 2, at 1 p.m., at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Summer Street, Plymouth.
