Mauren Ann Dunn

Maureen Ann Dunn (nee Fitzsimons), of Plymouth and Hanover, passed away from the effects of scleroderma in the early morning of May 4, her 68th birthday. Ever the intuitive soul, she knew her time was winding down and was able to pull her loved ones together for a day of reminiscing, laughing and storytelling.

Maureen loved life and lived it to the fullest. Her willpower and love of socializing for so long were stronger than the disease that was trying to slow her down. This afforded her many more years of fun and memories with those she loved.  Trips to Italy, the PNW, St. John, Florida, among others, filled her camera roll and her heart. She loved the beach, going out with friends, reading, Googling her growing list of medical conditions, baking and cooking, a good gin and tonic at cocktail hour, music and laughing so hard.  Most of all, Maureen loved having her family down to her house to enjoy a beach day and a night on the back porch or a Sunday dinner.  The chaos that came along with being surrounded by her 9 cherished grandchildren was her greatest joy.

Maureen is survived by her beloved husband of 45 years, her high school sweetheart, Brian. So steadfast in his support of her, they lived their vows until the very end. She was the cherished mother of Bill (Kate) of Wakefield, Matthew (Megan) of Braintree, Allison (Braden) Despain of Milton and Meaghan (Marc) Champagne of Plymouth. Her favorite role was Gramma to Thomas, Declan, Kelly, Nora, Jay, Oscar, Rory, Neve and Brett. Maureen is also survived by her sisters Mary Bono of Falmouth, Ann Sullivan of Denton, TX, and Elizabeth Fitzsimons of Weymouth. She is predeceased by her parents, William and Kathleen Fitzsimons and two sisters, Joan Fitzsimons and Kathleen Cullinan.

Calling hours are 5 to 8 on Wednesday, May 7, at the Cartmell Davis Funeral Home, 619 State Road, Plymouth (Manomet). The following day friends and family are welcome to the funeral home from 10 a.m. till 11 a.m., with a service at 11:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the National Scleroderma Foundation, to continue to fund research so, hopefully, one day no one else must succumb to this horrendous disease.
