This probably isn’t an original thought but here goes.
Why not use Bert’s, pending demolition, as a valuable training exercise for the Plymouth Fire Department? This would provide the PFD with a highly valuable training exercise benefiting everyone in the town in the event of a home/business fire, and it would truly harm no one.
I can hear the hue and cry from the social justice warriors now.
- Warren Avenue will be closed. It is during every Northeaster for many hours and is literally impassable.
- Long Beach will be closed. It is during and after a Northeaster, for days.
- The smoke will be damaging. We just went through weeks of Canadian wildfires where anyone with respiratory issues had to stay in. This smoke goes out to sea.
- It will cost the town money. I’m sure that the owner will pay for the added insurance and overtime for the town as it will cost him less in total after the demo savings.
If it was 20 years ago there wouldn’t even be a discussion, it would just be done, happily, benefiting everyone.
