Lawrence J. Mansfield, a longtime veteran of the Plymouth Police Department, died peacefully at his home on Tuesday. He was 90.
Born in Plymouth in 1935, he was the son of the late Lawrence F. and Hilda (Parkin) Mansfield. He attended Plymouth schools and graduated with the Class of 1953, as well as Cape Cod Community College with a Bachelor’s degree. He married his high school sweetheart, Edith (Wall) Mansfield, with whom he shared a lifetime.
He was a 26-year veteran of the Plymouth Police Department, retiring as a Detective Sergeant. In his retirement years, he and his wife embraced adventure, spending four summers living and working in Yellowstone National Park.
His family and friends will remember him for his strong sense of duty and integrity, and his love for reading and travel.
He is survived by his son David Mansfield, a retired USAF Major, and his wife Margie of Wolfeboro, NH; and three daughters, Laurel Shea and her husband William of Plymouth; Bonnie Mansfield, a retired USAF sergeant, of Plymouth; and Stephanie Mansfield; grandchildren Dr. Nicholas Uva and his wife Amanda, Lucy Marie Shea, David Lawrence Mansfield, and Anna Mansfield; great grandchildren Lydia and Cameron Uva.
He is also survived by a sister, Lillian Cashman, and her husband Richard. He was preceded in death by his brothers George, Walter, James, and Harold Mansfield.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. April 9 at Vine Hills Cemetery. Donations in Lawrence’s memory may be made to MSPCA Angell.
