David Wolcott joins the Plymouth Independent after 22 years as a sportswriter and then multimedia sports editor for the Old Colony Memorial newspaper. A familiar face on the sidelines in Plymouth, Wolcott has won several New England Press Association awards for feature story writing.
A true believer in the value of community journalism, Wolcott said he looks forward to keeping everyone updated on the achievements of Plymouth’s athletes.
“The people of Plymouth have been amazing for the last 22 years in allowing me to tell a little bit of their story,” Wolcott said. “I am excited to continue doing so with the Plymouth Independent.”
A native of Whitman, he holds a bachelor’s degree in communication arts and science from Bridgewater State University. He began his career in journalism in 1993 and also worked for a time as a public relations associate at Sacred Heart High School.
Wolcott and his wife, Kim, live in Cedarville.
“We know how important sports coverage is in any community, and it’s always been a goal of the Independent to bring it to our readers,” said Independent Editor David Kidwell. “When we saw the opportunity to have David’s expertise, sources and dedication, we didn’t hesitate.”
