We lived in Hingham in the 1980s when a developer made an offer for South Shore Country Club. The situation was very similar to the proposal made to acquire Atlantic Country Club. The Town of Hingham had to make a decision to either buy the golf course or let the development proceed.  It became a hugely controversial issue in Hingham due to the cost.  Ultimately the voters approved the purchase by the town, and it turned out to be enormously successful both as a recreational asset for the residents and as a financial asset for the Town of Hingham and its residents. The moral to this story is to look at Atlantic Country Club as an investment in the future of Plymouth that will pay dividends for generations. Once Atlantic is developed, that recreational land will be gone forever.
