Frances Mary “Mae” Bastoni

Frances Mary “Mae” Bastoni, 99, of Kingston, passed away at Wingate Nursing Home on June 25.  Frances was born to Frances Mae and John Joseph Nutterville in Kingston, on Nov. 14, 1925.  Her family moved to North Plymouth where she grew up. She attended the Plymouth schools, graduating in 1943. After graduation she was employed by the Plymouth Cordage Company for several years.

In 1946, Mae and her husband Angelo were married and lived in North Plymouth. Mae was a devoted wife and became a dedicated stay-at-home mom to their six children, whom she loved with all her heart.

Music and singing were always a significant part of Mae’s life, and as a resident of North Plymouth, she became the soloist at St. Mary Church for many years, singing for funerals, weddings, High Masses, and other events as she was needed. She also enjoyed being an active member of the Sweet Adelines choral group, performing with them locally and around the Northeast. Mae always had a song on her lips, and her family especially delighted in hearing her sing to them the songs and “ditties” she had learned as a child. She will be remembered by all her children and grandchildren for the music she brought into their lives, the love she poured into their hearts, her love and dedication to God, and her never ceasing prayers for each child and grandchild.

Mae loved trips abroad with her husband, traveling to Spain, Ireland, France, and several times to England to visit with her parents’ family as well as to Italy, where her husband’s parents were from.

After having moved to Florida, where they lived for 30 years, Mae and Angelo returned to Kingston in 2020 to be near family.

Mae was predeceased by her brother, Jack Nutterville, and is survived by her husband of 78 years; her children, Kathy Hall [Kevin] of Amherst, NH, Tom Bastoni [Debbie] of Greenville, SC, Peggy Hall [Gary] of Kingston, Joni Mazzilli [Paul] of Carver, Peter Bastoni [Beth] of Troy, NH, and Mary Rebman [Tom] of Fryeburg, ME. She is also survived by her 20 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren; as well as her sisters-in-law, Maryanne Nutterville of Bristol, TN, Dorothey Zagarri of Kingston; brother-in law, Alfred Bastoni; and many nieces and nephews.

A wake will be held on July 2 at Cartmell Davis Funeral home at 373 Court St. Plymouth, from 9 to 10:15 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass at St Mary’s Church, 313 Court St., Plymouth at 10:30 a.m.
