Eileen M. Shapiro (McAuliffe)

Eileen M. Shapiro (McAuliffe), 84, of Plymouth, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 12. She was the devoted wife of Edward Shapiro; loving mother of Carole Bowen and her husband John Bowen of Plymouth; proud grandmother of Connor, Joshua, Delaney and Ariana; sister of Noel McAuliffe, Rose Ward, and the late John, Joseph, Jeremiah, Dan, Mary Egan, and Carmel Browne.

Eileen was born in Castletown Bere, County Cork, Ireland, on April 11, 1940, daughter of the late Daniel and Mary (O’Leary) McAuliffe. Eileen grew up on the family farm in Eyeries, Ireland, and came to the United States when she was 17. She graduated from Loyola University in Chicago before meeting her husband Edward. The two married and raised their loving family in Milton.

Eileen made her career in insurance risk management, working for Hartford Steam Boiler, AON, and later retiring from Hub International. Following retirement, she and Edward moved to Plymouth to be with their family. Family was everything to Eileen. Her life revolved around her loving grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Eileen was also a devout Catholic. She volunteered at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Plymouth and was a Eucharistic minister at St Kateri Church.

A visitation will take place at St Kateri Church, 126 South Meadow Road, Plymouth, on Monday, Jan. 20, from 4 to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will take place the following day at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Vine Hills Cemetery, Plymouth. Donations in Eileen’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
