Carol Ann (May) Smith, formerly of Plymouth and a cherished resident of Vero Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on April 30, surrounded by the love of her family. She was the devoted wife of David Smith for 35 wonderful years, a partnership that exemplified love and commitment.
Born on January 17, 1951, in Plymouth, Carol was the beloved daughter of the late Thomas R. and Gloria (Payton) May. She received her education in the Plymouth schools, where her vibrant spirit and determination began to shine.
As a dedicated homemaker, Carol poured her heart into her family, always going above and beyond to ensure their happiness and well-being. She was a true inspiration to her three daughters, Lisa (Todd) Waters, Tara (Mike) Cudney, and Jodi Souza, who live in Vero Beach. Carol’s unwavering belief in her family and her refusal to give up on life, despite the challenges she faced, left an indelible mark on their hearts. She was also the proud mother of the late Alan Hoffler Jr.
Carol’s love extended beyond her immediate family. She was a doting grandmother to seven grandchildren: Matthew Hogan, Joseph Skinner, John Skinner, Jeffrey Skinner, Cobi Souza, Mikayla Cudney, and Hayden Cudney. Her legacy continues through her five great-grandchildren: Ella Skinner, Dakota Skinner, Malikai Skinner, Callie Rae Skinner, and Myla Skinner, who brought her immense joy.
Carol is survived by her siblings: Thomas R. May, Jr. of Plymouth, Michael J. May of Plymouth, Daniel P. May of Carver, Laurie J. McBride of Plymouth, and Judy Raymond of Alaska. She was also the former wife of the late Alan Hoffler Sr.
In addition to her family, Carol had a passion for animals, particularly cats and dogs, and she found delight in the simple pleasures of life, such as shopping and enjoying her favorite cheeseburgers with ketchup. The holidays were especially dear to her, as they provided opportunities for family gatherings filled with laughter and love.
A graveside service to honor Carol’s life will be held on Friday, June 6, at 11 a.m. at Vine Hills Cemetery, 102 Samoset St., Plymouth. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Cartmell-Davis Life Celebration Funeral Homes in Plymouth.
Carol Ann Smith will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of love, resilience, and unwavering support for her family will forever remain in their hearts.
