While Town Meeting members wrestled with local issues at Plymouth North High School on Saturday, demonstrators about a mile away put national concerns in the spotlight.
The second “No Kings” rally on Water Street attracted a large and vocal crowd, with many people holding signs, and some wearing costumes, to protest what they say is President Trump’s attempt to undermine the democratic process by assuming power not granted to him under the Constitution. Plymouth police estimated the size of the gathering at 2,000 to 3,000, which likely made it one the largest political demonstrations in the town’s history.
Motorists crawling past the scene on Cole’s Hill and across the street at Pilgrim Memorial State Park honked their horns, mostly in support of protest, which was held in conjunction with similar ones in Boston and across the country.
While traffic in the downtown and waterfront areas was clogged, police did not report any major incidents during the event, which was organized by the Indivisible Plymouth group. The first local No Kings protest was held in June.
