Karen Ann Shaw of Plymouth, remembered as the heart of her family, died Feb. 18 with her husband of 55 years, William, at her side. She was 76.
Born on Sept 4, 1949 to the late Henry and Dorothy Hannon of Braintree, she is survived by her four siblings: sisters Jude (Hannon) Mahoney, Kelly Lee Hannon, and Holly Hannon, and her brother, Bill Hannon and his wife, Lorraine; her children Michael and Jamie Shaw; Patrick and Ashley Shaw; Andrew Shaw and Erin Callahan; Amy Shaw; and Kathleen Shaw, all of Plymouth. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Lucia, Nora, and PJ Shaw, and Emma McIvor; her niece, Sue Morrell; nephews Brian and Patrick W. Shaw; and Jim and John Hannon; as well as numerous cousins.
Formerly of Braintree, Shaw and her husband Bill were neighbors as young children, then reunited as high school seniors. Their first date was her senior prom. They were married on March 20, 1971.
She spent much of her young adulthood traveling the country and living on military bases with her husband, an Army officer, before settling in West Plymouth, where they raised five children.
Her family and friends remember her as the heart of the Shaw household, a homemaker, organizer of sports and activities, and expressing her devotion in 100 quiet and practical ways.
Visitation is set for 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 24, at Cartmell-Davis Funeral Home, 373 Court St., Plymouth. Family and friends will gather at the funeral home at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, Feb. 25, followed by burial services at Plymouth County Cemetery on South Meadow Road, Plymouth.
The family asks donations in Karen Shaw’s name be made to the Critical Care Center at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Plymouth.
