On February 13, New Hope Chapel in Plymouth hosted Night to Shine, a prom-style celebration designed specifically for individuals with special needs — and the evening delivered all the sparkle, joy and pageantry of a traditional high school prom.
Guests were welcomed with a red carpet entrance, music, dinner, dancing and a crowning ceremony where every attendee was celebrated as royalty. The event offered a joyful, affirming space for people with special needs to experience a night centered entirely around them.
A few dozen members of Road to Responsibility, a Marshfield-based nonprofit serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities across Southeastern Massachusetts, attended the celebration alongside families, caregivers and staff.
“For many people, memories of their prom are an important part of their lives,” said Road to Responsibility CEO Chris White. “Unfortunately, most people with intellectual and developmental disabilities didn’t get that opportunity. This prom gives them that experience.”
Night to Shine is part of a global movement dedicated to honoring and celebrating individuals with disabilities through inclusive community events. In Plymouth, volunteers helped create an unforgettable evening filled with music, laughter, and connection.
For the members of Road to Responsibility, the night was about more than just dressing up — it was about belonging, celebration and creating memories that will last a lifetime.
