The Select Board needs to educate themselves on e-bikes, before considering any legislation. The vast majority of e-bikes are Class 1 e-bikes, designed to work only to assist in pedaling and do not engage when not pedaling. Most are owned by older residents who enjoy cycling safely as they struggle to ride up hills. These bicycles are less of a safety hazard than conventional bicycles owned by those who believe they are in the Tour de France riding at excess speeds. E-dirt bikes are a different animal. These are basically electric motorcycles and can be dangerous when operated recklessly. There is no need to ban or regulate Class-1 e-bikes. They are no more and maybe less dangerous than conventional bicycles.  If the city of Plymouth wants to improve safety, build more bike paths and bike lanes.
