Bob R. Valery

Bob R. Valery, 65, of Plymouth, passed away on Oct. 10, surrounded by his loving wife and sons.

Born in Stoughton on July 28, 1960, Bob was the son of the late Robert J. and Constance S. (Duval) Valery. Bob built a life rooted in hard work, humor, and love. He was the devoted husband of Janet (Witham) Valery for 39 years – the love of his life. He was the proud father of Craig Valery and his wife Erica of Mendon, and Brandon Valery of Plymouth, and proud “Paw Paw” to grandsons Emmett and Colton. He cared deeply for his family, even if life sometimes kept them apart, and he always carried that love with him.

Bob was the beloved brother of Suzanne Valery of Santa Maria, CA, and Ronald Valery of San Diego, CA. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who were family.

Bob grew up in Brockton and was a graduate of Brockton High School and Massasoit Community College. He began his career at Stop & Shop at age 17, rising through the ranks to become a store manager during a remarkable 40-year career. Never one to stop learning, he earned a master’s degree from Northeastern University while raising his family and later transitioned into public service – first as director of public health for the Town of Marshfield and later for the Town of Halifax. He took great pride in his work, and approached his life with dedication, compassion, and integrity.

Bob and Janet built their life on Little Pond in Plymouth, a place that reflected everything he loved most – calm waters, good friends, and time spent outdoors. He spent countless weekends golfing with his buddies Danny, Paul, Jimmy, and Phil, followed by legendary cookouts filled with laughter and storytelling that stretched long into the night. He loved bringing people together – whether behind the grill, on the deck, or around a fire – and those memories will live on in everyone who shared them.

Bob had a quick wit, a big laugh, and a gift for saying exactly what was on his mind – sometimes unfiltered, always honest, and often hilarious. He loved classic rock, concerts, and sharing music with his sons. To know Bob was to know someone who celebrated life not quietly, but fully. His presence filled every room, and his love for family and friends will continue to echo in every story and smile shared in his memory.

Visiting hours will be held at the Cartmell-Davis Funeral Home, 619 State Road, Plymouth, on Thursday, Oct. 23, from 4 to 7 p.m. A celebration of Bob’s life will take place the following day, Friday, at 10 a.m., at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to honor Bob in the way he would have wanted – by sharing a good story, playing a favorite song, or spending time with those you love.
