I try to keep up on all the posts written about the restoration of Memorial Hall. In your latest article, [Community Preservation Committee member Len] Levin said he feels it is not restorable and it is the consensus of everyone he has spoken to share the same feeling – it is not restorable. I don’t know who he’s talking to, but as a Plymouth resident and the many people I have spoken to that actually attend Memorial Hall quite often, including myself and my husband, absolutely want this building restored. It is one of the most iconic, memorable buildings in Plymouth.
Yes, restoring history can be expensive, but it is our history. I understand it will cost millions of dollars to restore but once it’s torn down it is gone. These venues bring revenue into the town. Just recently, just before we went to a show, we had dinner downtown and sitting next to us were two couples – out-of-towners – that we’re doing the same thing, having dinner then going over to the show. The couple we were with came up from Falmouth.
These are not third-rate acts, [a comment] which I heard made. Our own Plymouth Philharmonic would be insulted by that statement, as [would] other fabulous entertainers. Memorial Hall is part of Plymouth’s history and I’m sure somehow the town will find the money to restore this beautiful building.
